JULY 2022
Last 5 July, the EU-funded SHERLOCK project hosted its first online workshop, “Fostering seamless and safe human-robot collaboration in manufacturing”.
Industrial robots and automation in modern manufacturing industries have increased significantly in the past decades. More recently, the global pandemic and digital revolution have fundamentally transformed the way industries are performing. However, low digital integration and separated human-robot collaboration prevent enterprises from becoming factories of the future.
SHERLOCK develops innovative robotic applications to address manufacturers’ needs and bridge the gap between humans and robots so that they can coexist more effectively and safely.
The webinar, free and open to everyone, aimed at presenting SHERLOCK human-robot technologies in novel production systems that facilitate active collaboration in the same shared workspace. Our four panelists, representing different members of the consortium, unveiled the technical results achieved over the past four years and discuss the game-changing contributions of the SHERLOCK project to the new era of industry automation.
FEBRUARY 2021
EU Industry Days, Europe’s flagship annual event on industry, took place from 23 – 26 February.
The European Commission is investing in EU industry for a modern, clean and fair economy launched workshops, seminars, open door sessions and business presentations which demonstrated how European industrial ecosystems are:
The event serves as a central platform, bringing together a wide range of partners to discuss industry challenges and develop opportunities and policy responses. It also helps to ensure that policies at the European, national, regional and local levels work together to enable European industry to deliver jobs, growth and innovation in Europe.
Nikos Dimitropoulos, from Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems and Automation, one of our partner, presented the challenges & technological solutions developed to accomplish seamless collaboration between humans and robots in industrial environments developed within the SHERLOCK project during a session organised by Comau Group and the European Association of Development Agencies. This presentation shone a light on the work being done by everyone contributing to the SHERLOCK project.
OCTOBER 2020
SHERLOCK had the great opportunity to give three keynote speeches during the 8th CIRP Conference on Assembly Technology and Systems on “Digitalizing Smart Factories”, which took place from the 29 of September to the 1 of October 2020.
On the 1st day, SHERLOCK partners held a keynote speech on “Seamless human-robot interaction”; directly jumping into the topic of novel industrial collaborative robots. New scenarios emerge and evolve where physical barriers no longer separate industrial robots from the human operator.
On the 2nd day, SHERLOCK partners gave a keynote speech on “Advanced soft robotics technologies and smart mechatronics” highlighting how the digital transformation of products and production related to the Industry 4.0 revolution pushes manufacturers to rethink their assembly systems and processes.
Finally, on the 3rd day of the conference, SHERLOCK partners presented one last keynote speech on “Safety and security in collaborative workspaces” raising a crucial aspect: the central place occupied by the human operator.
MARCH 2020
For the second time, SHERLOCK attended the most influential meeting of the robotics community: The European Robotics Forum. This year, the event held in Málaga under the main topic of the potential of future robotic applications and AI, to ethics, inclusion and social impact. We had the chance to explore these key topics through a series of multidisciplinary workshops, conferences and presentations. Besides, an exhibition showcasing the most advanced prototypes, products and services of the EU Horizon 2020 research programme took place during the 2 days forum.
For two years in a row, SHERLOCK highlighted its results and human-oriented solutions, as well as to share our experiences with the robotics community during the 7th Hybrid Production Workshop, co-hosted with other robotics-relevant EU projects.
NOVEMBER 2019
GIZELIS ROBOTICS presented the most complete range of sheet metal, metal and robotic systems processing machines, at its factory in Schimatari, Viotia, for its open house event.
On this occasion, SHERLOCK partners attended the event to present the project to the GIZELIS community and to leverage the visibility and the benefits of future SHERLOCK applications. This open house event also fostered the dialogue with potential prospects customers within the robotic industries in Greece.

NOVEMBER 2019
For two days, SHERLOCK project has been presented at Composites Meetings, a large trade show representing more than 18 countries, bringing together users of composite materials, as well as suppliers and encouraging BtoB meetings for composite materials.
Considering this great opportunity to extend the network, SHERLOCK attended the meeting and more specifically run a stand dedicated to Human-Robot Collaboration. SHERLOCK discussed the future of robotics technology for industries and develop stronger relations within the European robotics community.
MARCH 2019
SHERLOCK had the great opportunity to co-host a workshop focused on Hybrid Production during the most influential meeting of the robotics community: The European Robotics Forum 2019 (#ERF2019).
Held in Bucharest, the event took place under the theme “Robots for Humans: AI for the real world”. The forum brought together over 900 leading scientists, companies, and policymakers for the largest robotics networking event in Europe to discuss and develop visions for the future of robotics for industries.
